Solvay modernizes its logistics with Neptune Software

Solvay Group has digitalized its logistics operations through a mobile solution fully integrated with SAP. Developed using Neptune Software and deployed by HRC Consulting, these applications bring greater responsiveness, traceability, and security to frontline teams.

A global leader in the chemicals industry, Solvay employs more than 9,000 people across 41 countries and operates 44 industrial sites worldwide. As part of a broader digital transformation of its industrial operations, the group identified as early as 2018 the need to modernize its logistics and maintenance processes.

The challenge
Faced with a wide diversity of business processes (goods receipt, shipping, inventory, internal transfers, maintenance, quality, etc.), increasing productivity requirements, and the complexity of a SAP landscape with multiple backends, Solvay launched an ambitious mobile digitalization program with three key objectives:

  • Reduce errors and improve real-time traceability
  • Enhance the user experience for shop-floor operators
  • Increase agility and execution speed

Why Neptune Software?

Following a rigorous benchmark and a proof of concept conducted in 2018, Neptune Software was selected for its ease of development, native SAP integration, offline capabilities, multilingual support, and ergonomics well suited to industrial environments.

The first applications for goods receipt and outbound preparation were deployed as early as 2018, with very positive feedback regarding ease of adoption, the responsiveness of Neptune’s support teams, and the first measurable operational gains.

HRC Consulting’s role

From the early stages of the project, HRC Consulting supported Solvay in solution selection, POC execution, and the rollout of the initial applications. Since late 2021, HRC Consulting has also been leading Solvay’s Neptune Center of Expertise (CoE).

HRC teams support Solvay across the entire lifecycle of mobile applications—design, development, maintenance, enhancements, and technical support—covering the following SAP domains:

  • Logistics (SAP IM, SAP WM, SAP LE)
  • Maintenance (SAP PM)
  • Quality (SAP QM)
  • Production and EHS (SAP PP, SAP EHS)

HRC mobilizes a dedicated team of certified technical consultants, working closely with Solvay Domain Leaders, to maintain and continuously evolve a portfolio of more than 150 active mobile applications.

The solution: Nereid

All logistics applications are grouped under the Nereid suite, specifically designed for shop-floor operators. Compatible with industrial Android scanners (such as Zebra TC8300), these applications support:

  • Supplier and production receipts (with or without QR codes)
  • Outbound preparation and truck loading (including photo capture directly in SAP)
  • Real-time physical inventories (with photo evidence)
  • Internal transfers, rework, reclassification, inquiries, and more
  • Spare parts management

Since 2023, Nereid applications have integrated NFC badge-based authentication, enabling fast and secure access without passwords.

This authentication solution relies on three security layers:

  • PIN code
  • Device-bound certificate
  • Personal NFC badge

It provides a seamless login experience tailored to shared industrial environments, while ensuring secure access to critical applications and full traceability—essential in industrial contexts.

Tangible results

  • 44 sites deployed worldwide
  • 1,500 mobile users across Solvay warehouses
  • 78 applications live, with progressive scaling
  • Strong operator adoption, driven by usability and smooth workflows
  • Significant reduction in errors and execution times thanks to real-time SAP synchronization
  • Fewer customer complaints, enabled by improved traceability

A long-term partnership supporting industrial performance

Beyond logistics, HRC Consulting also supports Solvay in the mobile digitalization of maintenance, quality, and production operations. Dedicated applications cover notifications, work orders, equipment, work permits, and the recording of analysis results - including full offline capabilities.

This collaboration is built on a shared governance model and a common backlog, enabling agile ways of working. Solvay and HRC teams operate with short delivery cycles, controlled quality, and a long-term vision for application evolution.

Since 2018, Solvay has fully leveraged the potential of SAP mobile solutions through a robust set of ergonomic, reliable, and shop-floor-oriented applications designed to boost productivity and data quality.

The Nereid suite, developed on the Neptune Software platform, is the result of close collaboration between Solvay’s Digital, Inventory Management, and business systems teams. It continues to evolve through continuous improvement, closely aligned with operational needs and technological advancements.
